Mastodon’s Brent Hinds and High on Fire’s Matt Pike, two of metal’s most talented guitar players, songwriters, and jovial, lovable characters, are working on “something special” together.
So sayeth Hinds in a post to Instagram yesterday, in which he revealed precious little about the project. But thanks to the power of inductive reasoning, we can infer the following: a) it involves an acoustic guitar and what looks to be a mini-classical or some kind of six-string uke, b) it involves hanging out on a PORCH and writing TUNES, and c) it will be good.
Given Hinds’ history with country and bluegrass in his side projects, West End Motel and Fiend Without a Face, I’m wondering whether it could be something in that vein. I, for one, would be stoked to hear both of these two shredders tearing up some good ol’ Americana music on grandpas guitars.
Here’s what Hinds offered:
“Me and Pike are cook-in up something special for all you guys! Stay tuned for more photos, videos&tunes 🖤⚔️”
Roger that, Brent: we are staying tuned! More as we get it.
Mastodon are currently working on new material for their follow-up to Emperor of Sand, released in March, 2017, while High on Fire are still riding the success of Electric Messiah, which came out in October, 2018.
